This is the second of my animation posts. I wrote the first one about Smallfilms a while ago and was inspired to write this post while watching the “The Comb” (pictured above) by the Quay Brothers on Sky Arts 2. I became interested in their work when I was a teenager.
This is one of the first pieces of their’s that I remember seeing. I was drawn to the the antique and decayed appearance of their work and the surreal and unsettling quality of their films.
More recently I found this piece of theirs.
Another artist that I discovered at about the same time as the Quay Brothers was Jan Svankmajer. I went to the cinema to see his film Faust. This clip shows some stop motion and also interesting use of puppets.
