In June of this year I had my 50th birthday. Earlier in the year this birthday seemed daunting and 50 felt way old. I didn’t have a steady income, I had lost confidence about myself and my creative work and I was wondering in what direction my life would go. Thankfully I got a new job (see this post).
This job has given me a new perspective and rather than feeling old and ‘past it’ I now feel excited about possibilities and I have an optimism and energy for my creative output.
As a birthday treat I booked a weekend away for the family. We stayed at the very lovely Wild Meadow Cottage.
Although we only stayed for a couple of nights it was so relaxing. I loved the personal touches like the apple juice made from produce from the orchard and the chocolates that were there as treats for our arrival and the vases of garden flowers.
The roses in the super comfy bedroom had such a sweet fragrance.
We enjoyed the beautiful wild meadow setting, went for walks…
…and ate cake! (My mum made us this delicious apple and lemon cake).
We also went in to Presteigne where we visited the interesting Judges Lodgings and did a bit of shopping. I was rather pleased with these thrift and charity shop finds. I was drawn to the space age-y vibe of the design on the Royal Doulton terrine dish and I am a sucker for a folk art pattern and some doilies.
On the way home we stopped at the Sidney Nolan Trust and looked around the gallery, studio and Rodd Court.
I am so grateful that I have the life I do and I don’t take my situation for granted. I aim to embrace and explore what is to come.
